Braxton's Crash & Burn...

This past Saturday, Troy promised to take Braxton riding bikes on a trail, so they headed up to behind the airport to the temple quarry trail.  Here is a bit of history for ya...the early pioneers used their teams and wagons to transport the rocks from the quarry to the temple site for the building of the temple foundation.  Now this trail isn't very wide, and when we hiked it a year or so ago, I was pretty amazed that the improved and widened trail that we were on was used by teams of horses, mind you there is a pretty significant drop-off along one side.  Anyway, I was just glad that Braxton didn't ride his bike off the edge.  However, just as they were almost to the truck, Braxton came down the last  hill, screamed like a girl,  and crashed.   Troy heard the scream and stopped in time to witness the mishap.  Troy says he got some pretty awesome pictures of the blood running down his face before cleaning him all up, but turns out the camera's memory card was in Troy's office...so no initial wreckage pics.  Troy tried to doctor (or nurse rather) him up with steri strips, but the cut wouldn't stop bleeding.  Off to the InstaCare we went.  It really is nice to have the 'ins' that we have since Troy is a nurse and manager of the clinic.  (Yes, we ALWAYS register and pay!) Troy numbed Braxton up and made him lay with his hands under his bum to hold still, and if you know Braxton, that was probably worse than getting the stitches themselves.  Dr. Welsh was great and put in just 2 stitches, and Braxton was very brave, and faired well.  After the InstaCare we rode back up to the scene, and even tho the hill wasn't all that bad, it is a little rocky, & I told Braxton I wasn't so sure I'd have made it down either.  I have become a big chicken, unlike my younger days when I'd ride with no hands, and go blazing through a mud puddle or pile of gravel without a care in the world.  Troy asked if Braxton would go again with him and he thought about it for a minute but said he would.  I thought it was cute that night when Troy went in to check on the boys in bed, Braxton was pretty sleepy, but said 'Hey Troy, thanks for patching me up."  I couldn't ask for a better husband and dad for our kids and especially such a great example for Braxton.  Love you Troy!  Here are some pictures:

Camrie's 1st Birthday Pictures

Finally, I thought it would be fun to post pictures of Camrie as she has grown this past year.  I still can't believe she is one!.  She is so much fun and has added so much more happiness to our home.  I was so excited to find out she was a girl, then freaked out right before she was born, because I didn't know what to do with a girl and I wanted a boy!  But of course now,  I wouldn't have it any other way.  We love you Camrie!!

Here are her 12 month stats:
Weight- 16lbs 4 oz ( 2nd percentile- no worries, just petite)
Length- 28.5 inches
5-20-09.  6lbs 0 oz  / 18.5 inches

3 days old
3 weeks- love, love, the pucker lips!

4 months

Camrie loved her swing (so did mom!)

Halloween '09- Peapod
she loves to push the chairs around the kitchen & play under the table
Camrie was the December  Roly Poly of the month at the DRMC Child Development Center
Mom's little helper!
Camrie can pull the funniest faces, but her smile is infectious!!

OK ON TO THE PARTY!!
Her cute little birthday crown Miss Chanlee made for her at school,
she has moved up to the Caterpillar class.  We love the child development center!!

The garage party!! It was such a cold day, we changed plans last minute and BBQed on the driveway and stayed warm in the garage, instead of battling the cold winds at the park.  Luckily Troy had spent the day before seriously cleaning out the garage & even mopped the floor.  It all worked out so good & we all had a great time!
Finally happy & smiling, she wasn't too sure about everything at first...

We are PREPARED!! (or so we like to think!)

Not only am I a big slacker in blogging, but I have been behind in rotating all of our 72 hr bags, which I usually do faithfully every conference weekend.  I read something awhile back about how every conference this family sets up their tent in the living room and faces the door towards the tv so they can 'camp out'  and watch conference ( you know, kind of the King Benjamin theory) anyway, they live that weekend off of their 72 hours kits so they can rotate food/water and clothing.  I decided that this was a great challenge for our family to see if we were really or somewhat close to being prepared for an actual emergency.  Since weekends are few that we are all home together and not working, I decided to do this last week for FHE.  I had mentioned doing this to Braxton awhile ago and how this family set up their tent, so he has begged and asked non-stop when we were going to set up our tent, but I decided much to his dismay that this time around the tent would have to be a no-go.
We started FHE with a fire drill which we haven't done for awhile, and we all made it to the designated spot.  We are getting better at this and actually grabbing things that are needed.  One time Braxton ran out with the TV remote - I guess that was important to him at the moment! This time he actually grabbed his 72 hr backpack! Although we never really defined what the emergency was, thus began our experiment... from then on until Thursday night, we had no power.  We ate our designated meals for each day, using the burner on our BBQ to cook/heat water.  This was a big step for me as I hate propane, I singed the hair off my arms once using the oven in my parents trailer and I've been scared of it since.  We learned a lot of things such as we didn't have any small pans in our packs to cook with so I bought a small mess kit which worked out well.  We used and refilled our 55 gallon water barrel, but didn't have the wrench needed for the cap. I also wonder if before drinking the stored water, next time, we ought to roll the barrel around to mix up the bleach a bit more, it was drinkable but a bit more 'tasty' than I would like. I also need to write cooking instructions on individual packages if they are out of the original box or container -  good thing I happened to have an unopened box of Lipton chkn noodle soup in the cupboard so I knew how much water to add.  I got good feedback on what food items not to buy and what we will eat more of.  Tanner will starve, and the rest of us will be fine b/c he eats like a bird (although his thighs and 'kankles' say otherwise) and we will divy up what he doesn't eat!!  Troy was pretty sure the 1st night we were going to starve with our little cans of speghettios, fruit cups, & cereal bars,  but was pleasantly surprised at how full he was. I had just happened to bake bread that day so we ate some of that too. The first night we got everything out and rotated out the winter clothes, batteries in flashlights, diaper sizes, baby items, and the medication kit.  I realized that we need to update our will's and advanced directives to add Camrie, we don't want her to be an orphan child if something happens to me and Troy.  It was good to do all this together so that everyone knew what was in their own bag.  The kids had fun cranking up the radios and flashlights and using a lantern in the hall as a nightlight until they went to sleep.  They like to listen to their primary cd's, so I said for the next 3 night they would just have to sing each other to sleep.  Braxton laughed at me, and when I passed by their room a few minutes later, Tanner was singing the ABC's over and over!!
We had lots of fun playing games and reading by the lantern. When Troy can't sleep he goes downstairs on the couch to read, usually falling asleep with the light on, and had done this on of the nights.  I figured he'd cheat and turn the light on, but when I went downstairs I found his book & a flashlight on the floor instead!  He even listened to the Jazz game in the dark on the crank radio, now that's a dedicated fan and also the kind of guy he is to support my crazy hair-brain ideas!!
I will also need more hairspray!! 72 hour hair without a curling iron is not pretty, but hairspray can make even the worst look presentable!
The most interesting thing I learned was how much of a distraction that dang T.V really is!! I was a bit nervous about how the kids would do and the 72 hrs of whinning I'd have to listen to.  Surprisingly, not once did either of them ask to turn on the TV. It was amazing how peaceful it was.  Everyone got along, Troy and I played games and had great talks after the kids went to bed. I could've laid on the couch all night embracing the spirit that I felt as we read scriptures with them by flashlight. Usually, after the kids get in bed, it seems like it takes Tanner an hour to get to sleep, he learned well from Braxton all the excuses to get out of bed, and Braxton is  up a few times to turn the cd player back on.  I think they both were asleep each night in about 20 min.
Thursday night Braxton said, "hey mom, we survived!! but can I still use the lantern instead of turning the hall light on when we go to bed? and maybe I don't really need my songs on at night." WHAT??? did my 6 year old really say that??  We actually didn't even turn the TV back on until Friday night, and I whined about doing that! It seemed like we were back to our old routine in a hurry.
This was a great challenge for our family and everyone had a good time.  So we may not be completely ready in the event of an emergency, but at least we have a pretty good start.  In addition to our food storage, we just bought a 3 years supply of the freeze-dried food storage that has some pretty tasty menu items!! that fits nicely under our extra bed. If anyone is interested in that I can hook you up.  I wish I'd have taken some pictures, I thought about it but never did it. Maybe next time!!

HAPPY ST.PATRICK'S DAY!

St. Patrick's day has been long awaited at our house for about the last 11 months! Seriously.  Since I had Tuesday off, and worked Wednedsay we had our St. Patrick's day breakfast on Tuesday...We had green shamrock pancakes and green milk. Braxton and Tanner each found a 'pot of gold' next to their plate and Troy made us some sweet shamrock placemats.  The boys were so excited when they got up and came down to eat and saw the table &  pancakes, & even more excited that mom let them have a few pieces of candy from their pots of gold for breakfast!! I wasn't sure Tanner would go for the green milk but he loved it.  Camrie even had a paper shamrock on her bottle which was half eaten before I realized it!!

Notice the rollos eaten & an untouched green pancake!

Last year's trap....

Candy left  by Leprachaun last year.

Last year Paige helped Braxton construct a Leprachaun trap, & when the Leprachaun escaped and left shiny candy, the plans quickly began for this years trap. Now I had never heard of this before last year, so of course this very uncreative mom turned to the internet to find some ideas for Leprachaun traps.  We found what we thought would be fool proof design and Braxton began conjuring up ideas as to what he would do with a Leprachaun after he caught it.  He wasn't quite sure what to feed it or how to keep it contained since they are magic.  I also wanted to make a Moon Box which is decorated all shiny & placed in the window seal the night before. The moonlight shines on the box, which attracts the little green fella and hopefully if he likes what he see's he may leave a treat.  Braxton wasn't to keen on the moon box idea so we stuck with the original plan.
This year's trap.

Our trap this year,  was a Leprachaun hat with a ladder leading up to a shiny gold coin and candy placed on top of a trap door enabling us to capture the fallen Leprachaun. We left it outside with the porch light on and hoped to find him in the morning.  Braxton & Tanner woke up to find a huge mess in their room (books, diapers, toys, etc all over the floor) and noticed the living room was 'trashed' as Braxton will tell you.  He went out to check the trap & found a note from the Leprachaun saying that although we had made a clever trap,  his foot got caught on the top rung of the ladder as he fell in &  pulled the ladder down into the trap.  After picking up the coin that was ontop of the trap door, he just climbed right back out & away he went.  He did notice the boy's shiny pots of gold candy through the window and magically got in our house making  a huge mess trying to find more. (they are very mischieveious you know!) He did leave a few little green treats and each a little green race car in the trap which made up for escaping in Braxton's mind.
I didn't get pictures of the fine mess that little green devil made, because Troy & I had been up all night with a very unhappy Camrie & I hadn't been to sleep at all in the last 24 hours, so as soon as Troy took the kids to school and daycare, I said goodnight to the mess in the boy's room and went to bed until noonish hoping a little fairy would come and clean it all up.   I was suppose to work a 12 hr shift, but luckily was an extra person in Perinatology to learn their machine that day, so I just went in 5-9 to finish my shift.  And as for the mess, it just got cleaned up tonight....mostly by me! Hopefully next year that Leprachaun won't be so messy or at least leave a number for a good maid!  Hope you all had a fun day!

NASCAR

Last year, about this time, Braxton- on his own- became a NASCAR fan.  Sunday afternoons we would watch a little of the race that was on and soon it became quite interesting and fun to watch as we learned more about the whole NASCAR thing and the strategy involved.  Santa, in his most magical way, left 4  tickets to the Sprint Cup at the Las Vegas Motorspeed way Feb. 28th on our  tree this past Christmas.  Of, course Braxton could hardley contain himself, and over the past few months both Troy and I have gotten pretty excited about it as well.  I printed out the rules and regulations and read up on them and we invited my dad to come along.  We weren't sure what to expect but lots of people filled us in and Nick supplied us with earplugs from MRI.
We left early  Sunday morning to snag a good parking spot (only took 45 mins from parking lot to freeway after the race) thanks to some seasoned fans from Beaver who know just the right place to park.  Some people say getting out of there can take up to 4 hours...uggg!  Of course our seats were as far away from our car as possible!! We were in the Richard Petty terrace which is on the opposite end of where we parked and came in, good exercise eh!  We found our seats which were on the 2nd row next to the track, can't possible get any closer nor any louder!! :) It was fun to be close and also right by Pit Road to see all the crews in action and how fast they work.  There were over 100,000 people there, and the weather was great!
If you have never been to a race, there is no way to explain that first lap under the green flag.  AMAZING!!! to watch a race on TV does not do it justice!  The only thing I could compare it to would be waiting in line at Lagoon for the Colossas rollercoaster when the cars go over your head and everything shakes and how loud it is...now compare that by at least x100!! We were on turn 1, so it was fun to be able to see the cars coming and going.  We also rented a pair of earphones and a scanner so we could tune into each car and listen to the drivers and crews.  That was awesome! plus it helped with the noise level in addition to the ear plugs. I learned that not only could I not hear one thing, I also stink at reading lips...my dad looked at me and  asked a question, I eagerly nodded my head and said ( let me rephrase that...YELLED)  "OK" and dug into the treat bag pulling out a big apple for him.  He looked at me shook his head and busted up laughing, we had to wait until the cars were on the other side of the track for him to yell in my ear, asking me how many laps the race was, he had forgotten! (267 laps)  We had a good laugh over that one!
Since M & M's are a staple in my diet, I've always liked #18 sponsered by M & M's even tho Kyle Busch isn't a fan favorite ( we learned that after he got booed from his Vegas hometown crowd during driver introductions). Braxton was wanting GoDaddy.com # 5.  Our cars battled it out for quite a few laps, which was fun for me and Braxton.  Braxton was a little concerned that we were missing church for the race, I assured him it was ok, especially after passing a few 'Christ's Calvary Church' 12 passenger vans in the parking lot!! Now there's an idea for Ward Conference! Too bad me and Troy just got release as the ward activities chairpersons!
We all had a great time, and well worth it to take Braxton and see him get so excited.  G.pa Smith bought  the #9 Kasey Kahne hat for Braxton and the minute he walks in the door at home, that hat is on his head! thanks dad! During dinner in Mesquite we all noticed the black rubber pieces in our hair and black on our faces.   We can deffinately say we had the complete NASCAR experience! We even DVR'd the race and watched it again after we got home.  Also, thanks mom for staying with Tanner and Camrie while we were gone. We love you!
This past Sunday after church both me and Troy laughed as we were in a hurry to get home to watch the race, which proved to be an exciting one with some good wrecks at the end! Who would've thought we'd ever become racing fans!!
Last night Braxton designed his own race car in the Toyotaracing.com contest for the best race car design. The winning design will be used on an actual race car throughout the season.  He is pretty sure his will win so after his car design is approved go to Toyotaracing.com search and vote for BRAXTON'S FAST CAR username RACINGISFAST.  There's only 8600 cars so far,  but the faith of a 6 yr old is strong!
Our camera got left in the car during the race,so thank goodness for phone cameras:) hopefully I can figure
out how to get the pix on here, if not I posted them on my facebook photo album.  What a fun day!!

One week follow-up...

Since I've had lots of questions about how things are going at the Webb Infirmary, I thought I'd give a quick update of  the latest happenings....

~ Troy:  has literally slept the entire week! I never knew the body could need so much rest all at once.  Yesterday was great, he and Camrie had a 2 hr snooze, then they met me and Tanner on the stairs as I was headed to lay Tanner down so we kid swapped and he and Tanner slept for another 2 hrs.  I got lots done during 4 hours of naps! (every toy that could possibly go in water had a nice clorox bubble bath!) Troy had a CT chest the other night which showed nothing exciting other than he still has pneumonia. We will go visit the pulmonologist next week to see why his o2 keeps dropping. He seems to be coming around tho.  Today he was among the living and was up most of the day, tired, but much better.  The days have all run together and he talks about doing things today that he really did yesterday!

~Braxton: Successful toothfarying Thursday night! (Whew) Not only did the toothfairy LEAVE the bag (why does there have to be a bag anyway? I never put mine in a bag!), but she left the money IN the bag too.  He was quite impressed with it all! Today he made a great cabin out of Lincoln Logs, and has reminded me frequently that he is the only one of my kids that is not sick.

~Tanner: 100% better than last week at this time.  Omniceft is a true gift from the pharmacy gods! Now if there was something his Aunt Caroline could concoct to tame his wild side and attitude, and bossy mouth!
Tonight I asked him to clean up his bucket of train tracks that had been knocked over, he said " No Mom, Camrie did it!"

~Camrie:  Add Zithromax and Rondec to the prior post's list of meds that we have accumulated in the past few weeks! I took her in today to be seen again.  No strep, but a very red throat, very stuffy nose, cough that has gotten much worse, and not much of an appetite.  Troy gave her the 1st dose of Zithromax and she threw it all up, so we had to have another rx called in so she would have enough to finish the whole course, and no our insurance won't cover the 2nd prescription b/c we filled one already this morning. I love FSA cards!!. She has been up in the middle of the night every night for the past 2 weeks, we've been spoiled since she as slept through the night beginning around 2 months.  This morning my little princess pooped in the tub, just as I got out- thank heavens! and to finish off the day,  as I was about to put her in bed tonight, she woke up, coughed, and hacked until she projectile vomited all down the front of me, and had a little giggle and smile as I headed to the tub (which btw was cloroxed to the hilt this morning).  She has started to jabber so cute the last couple days and crawled about 2 steps last night.

~Computer:  has yet to recover, not sure the Geek Squad can even revive it.  Time of Death...today. Cause...complete mystery.   Sure glad for Troy's laptop!! and tax returns for a new one.

We have managed quite well this week despite being down one parent. Yesterday, I turned off the heat, opened the doors and windows , used pretty much a whole can of Lysol and cleaned everything, AGAIN!   Washed pillows, pillowcases, blankets, toys....Once I was almost offended when our elder's quarum president said they could tell we worked at the hospital because our house always smelled so clean...just like a hospital - great!  He must not spend much time there is my guess?? So I made sure to burn my sugar cookie candle for a really long time to mask the 'sterile clean smell'. All of this has really reinforced how much I  do appreciate all Troy does for me, I am so blessed to have him.  Also thanks to Nick and Paige for helping out, what would we do with out them.  I am just glad all this has happened before they leave for Europe this Wednesday.  Seems like life always happens for us right before they leave town \:)

Anyway that is our report.  Thanks everyone for your thoughts and concern.  We love you all.

Sick, sick, and more sick!!

I'm just going to give the super condensed version of our holidays...It was awesome!! and move right into January/Febuary!! The last few weeks and on into this week has been a rough go.  Is it possible to have more sickness in my house??? I sure hope not!! It all started with Camrie a few weeks ago with goopy eyes, runny nose, cough... etc...you know what I'm talking about - there's one bottle of amoxocillian in the fridge.  Next bring on Tanner, bilateral ear infection and tonsilitis, deep cough - add 2 more bottles of the same yummy, pink, antibiotic in the fridge. Our house is sooo humid, with 2 humdifiers going!!  Enter Troy, leg edema, severe fatigue, hypoxia (low oxygen for you not-so-medically inclined folk), high temp, horse voice, usual stuffy nose & sore throat.  The worst Braxton has is a loose tooth! Me, trying desperately every night to wipe EVERYTHING down as good as possible!
Saturday, in the wee hours of the morning, I find Troy running out to the truck to get his pulse ox and thermometer, his o2 is in the low 80's and high temp.  He makes a visit to the InstaCare later to have a chest xray that shows pneumonia, yet he has no cough or chest pain. He talks Dr. Welsh out of admitting him and much to my dismay comes home to 'rest' on the couch.  By that evening I load Troy, Camrie, and Tanner haul them to the Instacare to have them all check and rechecked.  Camrie is ok, Tanner still has bad ears and rattley lungs - swtich to omniceft.  Troy, by now is dehydrated, still hypoxic, dozing off every 10 sec and having little mini dreams (my personal fav - the one where we are cleaning out the garage and he is telling me to make sure the beer boxes are covered up in the back of the truck so we can take them to the dump. WHAT THE HECK??  I promise we have not become wild partiers!)
The Marshall's to the rescue!! they were so great to meet us at the IC , trade us cars and take the kids home to bed while I took Troy to the hospital.  It took 4 pokes, and 2 nurses to get and IV, due to no fluids,  he had the H1N1 swab, which was negative.  The nurse had never done the swab before so Troy had to talk him through how to do it.  After a ton of IV fluids, everything settled down enough that he could go home Monday.  He still doesn't feel 100% but is a bit better.  His o2 has dipped down a few more times so he is on a concentrator at home with about 25 feet of hose so he can roam around.  I hate seeing him with oxygen on but it has helped some.
Monday night I came home with a migrain and sick to my stomach, so he sent me  to bed for an hour and I  felt guilty when I got up to find dinner finished, dishes done, homework done and kids ready for bed.  Troy is amazing even when he is so, so sick, and did way to much for just getting out of the hospital that day.  We both spent Tuesday home asleep all day.
The kids are doing better, and Braxton lost his tooth today.  He called and told me it was ready to be 'tooth-fairyed' tonight. Hopefully this time the tooth fairy learned his/her (contraversy at our house over the tooth fairy's gender...)lesson last time that if Braxton leaves his tooth under his pillow in a baggie..DO NOT TAKE THE BAG!! It caused great stress for that child.
I'm ready to move us all out for a few days, have my house fumigated and then move back in! Hopefully everyone is on the mend and we can get back to our usual selves.  I mean really, how much fun is the superbowl going to be with a bunch of drugged up sickies on the couch???  Sorry, no pictures, apparently our computer can't be left out, and seems to have caught a bug of it's own , and is temporarily out of commission...GREAT!!  My work is done here for the day, so home I go :)
